The School of Education of Viseu was the first organic unit from a Polytechnic Institute to start functioning in Portugal. In 1983 the first teacher training degree courses began in the ancient Escola do Magist\u00e9rio Prim\u00e1rio, a former primary school. <\/p>\n

Still functioning in this emblematic building of the city of Viseu, the School of Education integrates the group of the five organic units that constitute the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, assuming its vocation in the scientific, cultural, artistic and technical training of qualified professionals, in a compromise with services rendered to the community, research and the strengthening of partnership networks with regional, national and international entities, aiming at developing projects and activities of common interest.<\/p>\n
